Outlander

Outlander

Outlander (Outlander Series #1)Outlander is the first book in a 8-book (so far) series by Diana Gabaldon. It follows the main character Claire Randall who just got back from being a nurse during WWII and is on her honeymoon with her husband Frank in Scotland. Claire and Frank are trying to find themselves again, they were married and then torn apart for years due to the war. While on their honeymoon in Scotland, Claire travels to Craigh Na Dun looking for herbs unfortunately when she gets to the stone circle Claire falls through time, to 1743.

What will Claire do? Well she falls in the hands of highlanders specifically one Jaime Fraser who have taken her as a "guest". Why did I enjoy this book? It sucks you in from the beginning, the detail that Diana Gabaldon writes with provides you with such a vivid description of the characters and their different lives. Spoiler alert, yes the story is somewhat of a romantic novel- I mean, Claire has a husband so of course there is going to be a lot to do with that but it also provides a lot of historical background. Historical information that I didn't know existed but is provided in a a fiction friendly interpretation. The book is about 500 pages long and I've recommended it to a lot of friends- I've yet to hear any negative remarks about. I cannot wait to re-read the second one.
PS- don't forget, click on the book and you will be able to get to Barnes and Noble to read more about story, other reviews and how to buy it.
