Okay guys here's my review of a Game of Thrones. My boyfriend and I got into the T.V. show on HBO last year and well let's just say...we got through all the seasons in under a month? Oh and those episodes are an hour long. Anyway, it made me decide to read the book, or at least try. I know, so different for me compared to usual. I usually read a book before a T.V. show or movie if I can (thank you Outlander [I'm about to re-read that series so you guys will have some feedback on that soon!]).

Anyway, I had heard that these books are really difficult to read because each chapter is about another character. Anyway, I think watching the show helped because I already had an image in my head about what the characters look like but the more I think about it, the more I think anyone could read the first book at least if you're into long books with a lot of detail (think Lord of the Rings to an extent). 

So this series is about a realm from long ago. It somewhat reminds me of Lord of the Rings in this sense, there's magic, knights, fighting, swords, kings, queens, heroes, villains and dragons. There's a lot more but I only know from the T.V. series so I'm going to leave it at that.  The first book is introducing the characters and how they are intertwined together. It's families against families, and honor but the worst is coming and only a few know. The book follows three distinct families, the first is The Stark family, the family from the North who believe in honor and nothing else. They will fight for what they believe is honorable. They are from the North and they can feel that Winter is Coming; their family motto that is about to mean more to the people of the realm than they know. The second family is the Lannister family, the family of the lion who does not believe in honor but in money and being the best. The daughter for the Lannister family is married to the King, a longtime friend of the Stark Family. The last character is not a family but one young girl named Daenerys, the one true person of the Iron Throne and her journey to realizing how powerful she can truly be. It will be interesting to see where it goes from there. A war has begun in the realm but the biggest war they will ever face is slowly creeping up on them. 

I've decided that I did like this book the only issue was that since I've seen the TV show I had a general idea of what was going to happen as I read it. However, it gave me enough motivation to read the next series in a month or so. I have too many other books to read at the moment and since these are longer and detailed, I decided to give myself a break. Plus I don't want to catch up in the series and have nothing to read!
