Okay everyone, so June just ended and I read quite a few books
during that time. The first one that I'm most interested to write about is The Silkworm, by Robert
Galbraith. That's right, if you read my room of The Cuckoo's Calling you
would know that this is the sequel to it AND it isn't written by someone name
Robert Galbraith but by J.K. Rowling herself.
So where to begin? We pick up with our
same characters but a different mystery. Strike and Robin are at it again in
their own ways and with their own stresses that neither want to really talk
about with each other. The character development individually and as a team is
getting stronger, the first book saw them working together at different times
throughout, this one not only has them working together but has them getting to
know each other a little more. There is one section of the book where they
actually have a fight. Neither of their home lives are going the way they would
like it to either- which for most of us can be something that happens a lot, so
it's good to see a writer being able to relate to their audience (even if their
audience doesn't have a career like these two characters).
Okay, on to the mystery. A book author's
wife comes to see Strike because she believes her husband has gone missing and
she asks Strike to investigate. What Strike thought would be a missing person's
case turns into so much more, not only is there murder, but there is mystery
behind the death and the amount of people who could have been involved. The
police blame Mrs. Quine (the wife) but Strike believes she didn't do it. So not
only is he looking for a murderer, he's also attempting to free Mrs. Quine from
being blamed for it. While Strike works his own angle, Robin helps in any way
she can. She is determined to become an investigator like him, and will do just
about anything to get there- including lying to her fiance. As they work
together to solve the murder, the suspects become entangled together in more
ways than one.
I'm not sure if I enjoyed this better than
the first in the series but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I finished it
within a week and a half and really found times when I didn't want to put it
down. Is this a series for young children like Harry Potter was? No, not at
all, this book has very graphic scenes, it uses vulgar language in parts and is
definitely for an adult reader. I would not recommend it for someone younger
who just read Harry Potter for the first time, but for those people who grew up
with Harry Potter.
Want to read more about it, with more
reviews? Click on the source below for Barnes and Noble. Think you might want
to buy it? Well goodluck if you're an Amazon fanatic because you can't buy it
there. They are in a feud with the publishing company and no one knows when
that will end. Luckily, because of that, the book has dropped in price at all
other locations to buy it.
